FIRST CALL FOR PAPERS ADVIS 2006 Fourth Biennial International Conference on Advances in Information Systems 18-20 October, 2006 Izmir, Turkey “To the memory of Professor Dr. Esen OZKARAHAN”* http://web.deu.edu.tr/advis This is the fourth conference to be held to honor the late Professor Esen Ozkarahan (19401999) and his outstanding contributions to databases and information systems and it draws on the success of ADVIS 2000, ADVIS 2002, and ADVIS 2004 that was held in a beautiful Aegean city of Izmir that is in close proximity to many archeological sites. AIMS AND SCOPE Information Systems are rapidly evolving and involve a broad range of technologies such as IS development, Databases, Workflow management, Information Retrieval, Networks, Decision Support, Knowledge Discovery, and others. ADVIS 2006 aims at bringing together researchers in different fields of Information Systems who have a common interest in interdisciplinary research. The Conference will provide a forum for the presentation and exchange of current research results, original IS applications as well as bridging research and development in various fields of Information Systems. Papers presenting original research results and original implementations in the topics of interest listed below are solicited. We strongly encourage submission of papers bridging the research in different fields and promoting mutual exchange and understanding of cross-field research results. CONFERENCE TOPICS Topics of interest for the conference are: * Information Systems (IS) Development and Management * Advanced Programming Paradigms for IS * IS Tools and Environments * Ergonomics of Information Systems * Web Information Systems * Multimedia IS * Information Retrieval * Digital Libraries * Cooperative Information Systems * Workflow Management Systems * New Applications of IS Technology * Information Privacy and Security * Data Models and Database Design * Deductive and Object-Oriented Databases * Temporal and Spatial Databases * Constraint Databases * Impreciness and Uncertainty in Data Bases * Data Warehousing and Warehouse DBMS * Parallel and Distributed Data Processing * Data Mining, Text Mining, and Knowledge Discovery * Knowledge Bases and Expert Systems * Intellectual Databases and IS * Computer Aided Decision Making * Intelligent Interfaces of IS * Multi-Agent Technology * Ontologies and Semantic Web * Web Information Filtering * Web Services COMMITTEES Honorary Chair Irem Ozkarahan, Dokuz Eylul Univ., Turkey Program Committee Chair Tatyana Yakhno, Dokuz Eylul Univ., Turkey Program Committee Secretary Emine Ekin, Dokuz Eylul Univ., Turkey Program Committee Sibel Adali, USA Adil Alpkocak, Turkey Farhad Arbab, Netherlands Frederic Benhamou, France Fazli Can, Turkey Yalcin Cebi, Turkey Paolo Ciaccia, Italy Mehmet E. Moreover, his studies centered on database machines to which he made significant contributions. Professor Ozkarahan is well known for his pioneering work on the RAP (Relational Associative Processor) database machine. He designed RAP to provide hardware implementations of relational databases. RAP includes all the relational algebra operations, and an implicit form of the semi join operation that later became the cornerstone of query optimization in relational databases. Everyone who had the pleasure of knowing Esen Ozkarahan and working with him will always remember his great vision, eminent achievements, and generous friendship.
