The Division of Pediatric Critical Care Medicine at Dokuz Eylul University Hospital specializes in the care of criticall ill or injured children. Apart from patient care in the current state-of-the-art Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), activities of the division include education and training of health care practitioners (students, residents, nurses); research, and healthcare advocacy. The division operates the first (and currently only) pediatric patient simulator in Turkey. Patient care technologies in the PICU include HFOV, CRRT, and since March 2011, also ECMO. Our unit was the first Pediatric Intensive Care Unit in Turkey to utilize ECMO in the treatment of a child.
