The top part of the figure lists the steps for transforming to a distributed OracleAS Cluster (Identity Management) topology, and the bottom part of the figure shows the nodes in the environment with lines connecting them. Numbers on the lines indicate the step associated with the line.

There are eight steps:

  1. Check high availability requirements. This step is not shown in the figure.

  2. Back up your environment. This step is not shown in the figure.

  3. Transform database to Real Application Clusters database. In this step, you transfer the data from the single-instance OracleAS Metadata Repository database to the Real Application Clusters database.

  4. Change source Identity Management to use Real Application Clusters database. In this step, you associate the Identity Management instance with the Real Application Clusters database.

  5. Transform source Identity Management to use virtual server names on the load balancers. In this step, you reconfigure the Identity Management instance to use the LDAP virtual server name on the load balancer ("oid.mydomain.com" in the figure). You also disable the OracleAS Single Sign-On and Oracle Delegated Administration Services components in this Identity Management instance.

  6. Install an Oracle home for OracleAS Single Sign-On and Oracle Delegated Administration Services using virtual server names on the load balancers. In this step, you install OracleAS Single Sign-On and Oracle Delegated Administration Services on a node that is fronted by a load balancer. The load balancer is configured with an HTTP virtual server name ("sso.mydomain.com" in the figure).

  7. Change middle tier to use (1) virtual server names on the load balancers and (2) Real Application Clusters database. In this step, you reconfigure the middle-tier instance to use the virtual server names on the load balancer. You also reconfigure them to use the OracleAS Metadata Repository that is running on the Real Application Clusters database.

  8. Install additional instances. In this step, you install additional Oracle Identity Management instances.

You install an additional OracleAS Single Sign-On / Oracle Delegated Administration Services instance and cluster it with the instance you installed in step 6. This instance and the instance you installed in step 6 are fronted by the same load balancer.

You also install an additional Oracle Internet Directory / Oracle Directory Integration and Provisioning instance. This new instance also uses the LDAP virtual server name ("oid.mydomain.com") on the load balancer. This instance and the source Oracle Identity Management instance (see step 5) are fronted by the same load balancer.
