This image shows the World-of-Books architecture. The image is divided into 3 sections. On the left are 3 browsers. In the center is the Oracle Application Server with the Oracle HTTP Server, JSP/Java servlet, XSQL utility, JDBC and the Oracle Database. On the right are a Chines book supplier and a multilingual book supplier.

The browsers represent an English customer, a Japanese customer and a German customer. Each browser connects to Oracle Application Server using UTF-8 over the Internet.

Oracle Application Server communicates to the database using UTF-8 and UTF-16. It communicates with the book suppliers using XML in UTF-8.
