USAGE OF PLANTS IN WASTEWATER TREATMENT TECHNOLOGY

SUMMARY

Wastewater treatment trend by the use of plants are in- creasing rapidly everyday. Especially in resort areas where

construction of sewage systems are difficult and expensive this treatment method gains importance.

Treatment system of the dwelling areas in Kreuzberg Berlin has taken the adwantage of usage of plants in 1987 .

Wastewater coming from the primary settlers in treated by means of plants. People from different professions such as

chemists, biologists, urban planners,agr�cultural engineers, architects, environmental engineers, physikists, and civil

engineers have planned treatment plants . An artificial biotop is created by the use of macrophytes and

a nice appearance is prourded to the recreation areaes. Lach of the local operational and desing knowledge appears to

be discouraging but in order to gather the data it is necessary to operate one. Pilot plants like in Afyon, experience should be received and keep the knowladge expend.

Since wastewater treatment by the usage of plants do not require energy it is a very important method for our country.
