The excursion will be by bus and include visits to the ancient sites and coastal zone around Antalya.

Landscape evolution of the Taurus Mountain system, soils, vegetation, forests, karstic landforms, land degradation, coastal zone management.

Tour 4: Post Symposium Field Trip: June 14 - 18, 2013
Mediterranean Ecosystems Working Group: Field Tour
Kemer – Isparta-Afyon- Eskisehir-Bilecik-Sakarya-Düzce-Bolu-Karabük-Bartın-Amasra-Kurucaşile-Kastamonu-Bolu-Düzce-Sakarya-Izmit-Istanbul
The field trip will depart from Kemer and ends in Istanbul. Trip will commence on the Morning Friday 14 June and involve five days of field visits to localities between Antalya and Istanbul. Transport will be in bus/coach and the number of participants will be limited.

Cost per/person: The field trip fee of Euro 400.- includes transportation from Kemer to Istanbul (from the morning of 14 June until the evening of 18 June), meals (packed lunch/picnic/set menu), and accommodation (5 overnight stays, based on double room. There will be 20 Euro per person per night for single room), entrance to the National Parks. Participants who attend this field trip will need to arrange their flights from Istanbul to their destinations
Special requirements: Suitable footwear for walking along uneven ground, a sun hat and sunscreen are recommended.
Route: The trip will cover the Mediterranean Ecosystems (Natural and Cultural) in the Middle and Northern Anatolia. The trip will visit the Southern, Central and Northwestern Turkey (Isparta-Afyon- Eskisehir-Bilecik-Sakarya-Düzce-Bolu-Karabük-Bartın-Amasra-Kurucaşile-Kastamonu-Bolu-Düzce-Sakarya-Izmit-Istanbul)
This field trip will focus on ecosystems around South, Central and Northern Anatolia (Turkey). Topography, climate, vegetation formations, soil- parent material- vegetation and landform interactions, land-use, land degradation, environmental changes, and anthropogenic influence will be examined. Human-natural environment relations, agriculture, tourism, settlement patterns will be explored. Wherever possible we will examine other points of interest that contribute to understanding the evolution of the landforms, in their climatic, geological and ecological context. The route includes Mediterranean, Central Anatolian and Black Sea scenery, ranging from forested mountains to highlands, Inner Anatolian steppes and Black Sea lush vegetation.
