Field Tours
Post Symposium Field Trip: June 06 - 08, 2010 The trip will cover the Mediterranean Ecosystems (Natural and Cultural) in the southwest Anatolia. This excursion will depart from Kemer return to Antalya. The trip will visit the Coastal part of Taurus Mountains, Kemer, Kumluca, Finike, Demre, Kaş, Kalkan, Fethiye, Taurus Mountains, Korkuteli and Antalya. This field tour commences in Kemer, climbing up to 2650 m Tahtali Mountain by Cableway. The tour then heads west to examine the landscapes of the Mediterranean coasts. Vegetation, soils, karst topography, and agriculture will be investigated along with associated human-nature interactions such as land use, husbandry. Passing through pine forest, the tour heads to west on the coastal towns at Kaş and Fethiye where participants will be able to swim in the Mediterranean at Dead Sea. This field trip will focus on Mediterranean ecosystems around Taurus Mountains. Karst topography, coastal geomorphology, climate, vegetation formations, soil- parent material- vegetation and landform interactions, land-use, land degradation, environmental changes, and anthropogenic influence will be examined. Human-natural environment relations, agriculture, tourism, settlement patterns will be explored. Wherever possible we will examine other points of interest that contribute to understanding the evolution of the Taurus Mountain system, karst landforms in their climatic, geological and ecological context. The route includes Mediterranean scenery, ranging from forested mountains to highlands, canyons and poljes. Cost per/person: Euro 175.- Trip fee will cover transportation from Kemer to Antalya, meals/set menu/picnic, accommodation (based on single, double rooms-optional) museum and national/natural park fees). 2 Overnight stays. Travel will be by coach, departure from Kemer on June 6 in the morning and return to Antalya on June 8, in the evening.
