Anasayfa Academic Ethics

Faculty of Business has a zero-tolerance policy against plagiarism, known as “the act of appropriating the literary composition of another author, or excerpts, ideas, or passages therefrom, and passing the material off as one's own creation.” Considering this as the biggest block before producing reliable knowledge rather than specific personal morality issues, Faculty of Business aims to train the students in order that they can be individuals with a sense of responsibility, able to implement scientific methods diligently.

Faculty of Business sees academic ethics as the thumb rule that shapes the scientific environment in which we make our occupational moves. With the principle of “Good is the outcome of our common effort,” Faculty of Business lays special emphasis on informing the students on plagiarism.

Nowadays, when it is excessively easy to reach knowledge, Faculty of Business wishes to prevent the assignments or projects’ turning into “a race of entering the best web site on the topic, cutting, and pasting it.” For this purpose Faculty of Business brings to attention some of the suggestions of American Psychological Asssociation.

“Plagiarism may sometimes result from ignorance. Some students who have just been enrolled may not have a clear cut idea about what plagiarism is. Therefore, especially in their freshman year, they should definitely be informed on what exactly plagiarism and scientific methods are.”

“It must be clearly defined what kind of disciplinary sanctions are to be applied in cases of plagiarism.”

“The students may be asked to bring the material with the cited parts high-lighted.”

“The lecturer may assign projects based on the restricted resources that he/she has previously specified.”

“Assignments/ projects may be carried out in parts such as preparing contents, rough draft, and final draft; this way the lecturer notices the citation problems in the first place and can interrupt in order to guide the student to a better way.”

“The lecturer must check the assignments.” Students should know that there are softwares that can reveal plagiarism, which will enable a reliable studying environment.”
