Prof. Metin Akay received his B.S. and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Bogazici University, Istanbul, Turkey in 1981 and 1984, respectively and a Ph.D. degree from Rutgers University in 1990.

Akay has worked in both academia and industry. Early on in his close to 20-year career, he spent time as a consultant for MedAcoustics Inc. and UMDNJ. He went on to serve engineering and computer science departments at Rutgers, Dartmouth College and Arizona State University. He earned the title of full professor in 2005.

He has researched and published extensively in the areas of neural engineering, biomedical informatics and biomedical imaging.
Akay has earned several honors throughout his career. Among these are two Young Investigator Awards from Sigma Xi, the IEEE Third Millennium Medal in Biomedical Engineering, the IEEE EMBS Service Award and an IEEE Early Career Achievement Award. He is also a fellow of IEEE and the Institute of Physics.

Devoted to promoting bioengineering, biotechnology and biomedical engineering, Akay has given more than 50 keynote and plenary talks at international and national conferences in areas of neural engineering, rehabilitation engineering, computational biology and bioinformatics. This is in addition to work as editor-in-chief for bioengineering and biomedical engineering books and as associate editor or chair of steering committees for journals in these areas

Manuela Galli has a Master degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Politecnico di Milano (July 1991and has obtained a PhD degree in Applied Mechanics (Biomechanics) in 1996 with a PhD thesis in the field of multifactorial movement analysis for clinical applications . At present she is Researcher at the Department of Bioengineering of the Politecnico di Milano and teacher of “Laboratory of Functional evaluation” in the course of Biomedical Engineering and teacher of PhD course of “Analysis and Synthesis of human movement”. She is responsible of “ Posture and Movement Analysis Laboratory “Luigi Divieti” of the Department of Bioengineering of the Politecnico di Milano and responsible of “Gait Analysis Lab “  of IRCCS San Raffaele Pisana, Tosinvest Sanità, Rome.

She is author of several scientific works, published with an international peer review process, in the field of the movement analysis for clinical applications. She is often present to international movement analysis courses and seminars as invited speakers.
