Spinal Cord compression in   thalassemia intermediate

Daryus Haydari, Rana Karabudak, Ersin Tan

Spinal cord compression due to extramedullary haematopiesis is a rare but well defined complication in a number of hematologic disorders including  thalassemia. A patient with  thalassemia intermedia who had symptoms of spinal cord compression for two years recovered without any sequela after radiotherapy. Our experience supports the rol of MRI finding in diagnosis and presents the results of radiotherapy in a delayed case.
