Vertical eye movements in a patient with pontine haematoma

The various reported spontaneous vertical eye movements of comatose patients have been seperated and defined on the basis of the differing velocities of upward and downward phases. Adding more definitions to the growing list of spontaneous vertical eye movements in comatose patients seems to be a confusing and unproductive effort. Rosenberg has advocated that those oscilations may all be part of a spectrum of oculomotor problems caused by the same pathophysiological mechanism. The unclassified vertical oscilations in our case with pontine hematoma is supporting this opinion.
