MOSIXVIEW, a management-GUI for MOSIX-cluster

Abstract:

This software is based on the MOSIX-Cluster technology (www.mosix.org).
It is called MOSIXVIEW and contains some helpful, MOSIX-specific applications for cluster-management.



 

What is MOSXIVIEW?

MOSXIVIEW is based on the MOSIX-Cluster technology (www.mosix.org) and I developed it in cooperation with the technical University of Jerusalem. It contains some helpful, MOSIX-specific applications for cluster-management:

How and Why to use MOSIXVIEW?

Today, computing capacity is becoming more and more important because of the sheer amount of data and processing intensive applications. That is why cluster-technologies like MOSIX are more and more interesting for the IT-world. To reduce administrative work I developed the graphical user-interface MOSIXVIEW.
You can manage a nearly infinite number of hosts with it and make configuration changes for the whole cluster or just single-nodes. The main-window displays information about the state of the cluster, e.g. the efficiency of load-balancing or memory-use.

The MOSIXVIEW-client is for process management. It is like a graphical "top". You can e.g. migrate processes to another cluster-node with a double-click. Even remote processes are manageable.

Long-running calculations can be reviewed by the collection date from the MOSIXCOLLECTOR.

MOSIXLOAD, MOSIXMEM and MOSIXHISTORY graphically display the logfile-data. There is an option to set checkpoints to synchronize the data. Checkpoints are highlighted in MOSIXLOAD and MOSIXMEM. You can analyze which node computes, when, with which load and what memory usage.

An even more detailed view of what happened on the cluster in a given moment can be obtained with MOSIXHISTORY.

The process list of the cluster is displayed in a way similar to the MOSIXVIEW-client, but contains the data from the past (from the logfiles). The moment you want to analyze can be changed easily with a "time-slider".

 

Where to get more information?

MOSIXVIEW is free for download and is based on the GPL-license model. It took nearly 6 months to develop it.
It was developed in C/C++ and QT (www.trolltech.com).
