You Have Found The Satan...!

Hello...! My Name is Type 0803...!

Characteristics : Straight or smoothly curved filaments of uniform diameter (0.8 micron) and 50 - 150 micron in length, found extending from the floc surface or at times free in the bulk solution (industrial waste activated sludges). No sheath and no attached growth. Cells are rectangular (0.8 x 1.5 - 2.0 micron) without constrictions at septa. Gram negative and Neisser negative. No sulfur granules.

Identification : Relatively small, non-motile filaments (0.8 x 50-150 µm). Straight or smoothly curved filaments with no branching. Cells are rectangular (0.8 x 1.5-2.0 µm) and are easy to see. No sheath, no constrictions at the septa. Cells walls are present but difficult to see. Filaments are found extending from the floc structure and free in the bulk solution. No sulfur granules. Usually easy to identify due to its arrangement of "cables" and lack of any other distinguishing features. No attached growth. The filament staining is Gram negative and Neisser negative.

Similar Organisms : Types 1851 is similar although it occurs in bundles. Type 0914 is similar although it may contain sulfur granules.

Environment : This filament is usually found in environments where there low F/M (0.02-0.2) with low organic concentrations.

Control : F/M can be changed by increased sludge wasting, changing from complete mix to plug flow or use of a selector or intermittent feeding.

Rank : 0803 ranks 11th in number of predominance.
