FLIGHT

For convenience, travellers may fly directly into Izmir. Almost all big flight companies serve the Izmir Adnan Menderes International Airport <http://www.adnanmenderesairport.com/izmiren/index.php>. It is also possible to fly into Istanbul, located 600 miles (ca. 1000 kms) from Izmir, which has a larger airport with more airline connections and is therefore often less expensive <
http://www.ataturkairport.com/eng/index.php; website is also in German>. There are several buses that connects the Istanbul with Izmir. If you plan to drive to Izmir from Istanbul by bus, the travel time is approximately 11 hours and costs ca. 30 ytl (ca. 17 €).

The lowest priced flights to Izmir Airport are Germanwings <http://www.germanwings.com/index.en.shtml> and Cyprus Turkish Airlines <http://www.kthy.net/kthyen/html/index.htm>. Other cheap flight companies to Izmir are Sun Express <http://www.sunexpress.com.tr/english/announcement_100126_0.html>, Hapag-Llyod <http://www.hapagfly.com/westsite/content/suchen_und_buchen/eng_001158.shtml>, Onur Air <http://www.onurair.com.tr/>, Atlasjet Airlines <http://www.atlasjet.com/en/default.asp>, Sky Airlines <http://www.skyairlines.net/eng/index.htm> and Ryan Air <http://www.ryanair.com/site/EN/>.

In Istanbul you will of course have more options in terms of airline companies and their prices. The Istanbul Atatürk Airport has a tube connection with the Central Bus Station in Esenler. From there it is very easy to find a bus to Izmir at anytime.
